Job Summary
The Cryogenic ASIC Design Engineer will design, develop and build digital, analog and mixed-mode application specific integrated circuits (ASICs) for Photonic’s silicon spin qubits. An expert in cryogenic computer hardware design, you will collaborate with a diverse, multi-disciplinary group of engineers, scientists, and other technical team members on our hardware and quantum teams.

What we need you to do
- Design analog, digital or mixed-mode (i.e. analog-digital) ASICs for initializing, manipulating, and measuring our silicon-based qubits, and controlling related optoelectronic components
- Develop design specifications based on theoretical analyses and in conjunction with application needs and carry out complex and independent design tasks
- Design circuit networks, using schematic entry and layout tools with full-custom or timing-oriented layout tools in Cadence or similar CAD/EDA environments
- Develop models of circuit networks and system components in hardware description languages specific for analog or digital modeling
- Manage the operation and maintenance of advanced test equipment, including dilution refrigerators, cryo-RF electronics and packaging, microwave control electronics, and measurement software
- Perform hands-on innovative measurements of electrical components, hardware, and cryogenic systems
- Build analog or digital test-benches and carry-out mixed analog and digital circuit simulations
- Execute physical and functional circuit and system verification
- Manage project documentation, test-board designs and laboratory testing
What you bring to our team
- Undergraduate degree in an engineering, physical sciences discipline or closely related field of study. Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in an engineering, or physical sciences discipline is preferred.
- 5 years progressively responsible related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Expertise with specificity of ASIC design processes and flows
- Experience in microwave-frequency measurement applications; knowledge of microwave calibration techniques
- Familiarity with CAD/EDA tools for ASIC design and their interoperability
- Knowledge of readout integrated circuits for radiation sensors, including signal processing, signal filtering, signal conversion, data transmission, high speed electronics,
- Sound background of solid-state circuits and integrated circuit design
- Ability to execute analog and/or digital ASIC design flows for performing design tasks
- Knowledge of front-end and back-end ASIC design elements, such as layout, physical verification, and design verification
- Experience working in a cryogenics laboratory
- Proficiency in writing and troubleshooting data acquisition software in languages such as Python
- Demonstrated technical proficiency in one or more of the following areas: superconducting devices, microwave devices, magnetic devices, nanotechnology, semiconductors, SQUIDs, single-electron devices, low noise electronics, amplifiers, filters, MEMS, or qubits
- Basic knowledge of quantum computing systems, hardware, measurement techniques, and current issues
- Outstanding teamwork skills
- Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
