Paul Terry leads the team at Photonic. He is a seasoned entrepreneur, engineer, and angel investor specializing in disruptive technologies (networking, storage, supercomputing, AI and Big Data, and now quantum.) Paul has founded or been one of the founding employees at six successful Canadian companies over 30 years – 1 NASDAQ public, 4 (US) acquisitions and 1 currently operating. The cumulative valuation of those 6 companies has greater than a $10BN value to stakeholders.

Past roles include CEO of PHEMI, CTO Canada of Cray Supercomputing (OctigaBay), CTO of Abatis (Ericsson),  and Director Strategy at  Newbridge Networks (Alcatel).

Paul is a Corporate Director (ICD.D) has sat on 40+ technology boards. He has advised VCs, national defence and governments (federal and provincial, UK, US, Canada) on economic, technical, health, and national defence strategies. Paul has spent 25 years on various not for profit boards – Providence Heath Care (PHC),  Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research – founding board member (12 years), and Genome BC, including the chair of Genome BC’s industrial innovation sub-committee. Paul is an adjunct professor at Simon Fraser University’s Beedie School of Business and an MBA lecturer at the SFU Beedie School of Business, specializing in the area of value proposition design, startups, and innovation.

Paul holds a 1st Class Honours Degree in Physics/Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Engineering from Liverpool University. He holds an MBA from Cranfield University.
